Sanjay Dutt, who was out on a 2 week furlough had applied to the court for a furlough extension. Yerwada Prison authorities in Pune rejected the plea for extending his furlough and he is now heading back to the Yerwada jail.
Recently the actor celebrated his birthday and new year with his friends and family and had returned to the Yerwada police station after his furlough ended. But as no decision was made by the court, Ram Shinde, Minister of State for Home, announced in news channels that Mr Dutt need not surrender until a decision has been taken on his application. After which Sanjay Dutt returned back to his home at Mumbai.
But authorities of Yerwada prison have now rejected his plea. When asked to comment about the same Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer Hitesh Jain said, “”We are told the city police report was positive. Hence we have no idea as to why it was rejected.”
Mr Jain stated that as per a new circular issued by the prison department if an inmate doesn’t report back to jail on the 29th day after the “initial 14 days and a 14 day extension taken as granted”, only then it would be a violation.
But to avoid complications, Mr. Dutt won’t be taking any chances, and thus will be returning to the jail today itself as assured by Mr Jain, ” I have advised him to surrender today itself.”
Actor Sanjay Dutt is serving his sentence after being convicted in the 1993 Bombay Blasts Case for illegal possession of weapons.
