Says by the times state elections come, Modi govt will be 2-yrs old and performances would be compared

A day after ruling Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav asserted he would not concede Uttar Pradesh to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has metaphorically admitted to a direct fight between the party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017 assembly polls.

Yadav senior, while returning to Lucknow from his native Etawah district yesterday, had commented SP would not let Modi win electoral battle in UP at any cost.

However, Akhilesh Yadav in his press conference here today said the coming years would be crucial for him and his government in run up to the state polls in 2017.

"In 2016 and 2017, our aim would be to reach out to people and apprise them of the development works that we have undertaken and to convince them that it was the best way towards progress," he added.

He said his government had launched most flagship schemes and now the target was to complete these projects on time.

Yadav said in 2017, the Modi-led central government would also be 2-year old and the people could well compare the performances of the two governments before voting.

Meanwhile, he reiterated while his government was best in working towards public good, it was a laggard in publicity.

He said the state government would get another opportunity to take new decisions in the next state budget.

Yadav also mentioned some developmet projects that had been launched in the state, including Lucknow Metro Rail, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Samajwadi Pension Scheme, Kamadhenu Yojana, free water, free medical aid, Lohia Awas Yojana, solar energy, zoological gardens etc.

Commenting on Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the CM said it would interconnect towns and villages and spur economic growth.

Besides, he complimented the media for supporting his government during 2014.

SP, which had secured a comfortable majority in 2012 assembly polls and replaced the Mayawati government, got reduced to just 5 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 general elections; a dismal show compared to 23 seats it had won in 2009.

However, the party had made a strong comeback in September 2014 winning 8 of the 11 assembly seats in state bypolls.
