Relic Reporter, New Delhi.

Mahindra has launched a new variant of its popular Scorpio SUV with the S4+ badge. This new variant packs in safety features such as ABS, EBD, front airbags, seatbelt warning indicator, follow me home headlamps and panic brake indicators. The Scorpio S4+ variant will be replacing the S4 4WD variant and as such also comes with a shift on the fly four-wheel drive system.

Mahindra Scorpio S4 4WD variant was priced at Rs. 10.11 lakh ex-showroom Delhi
The Mahindra Scorpio S4 4WD variant was priced at Rs. 10.11 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, prior to excise duty revision. Judging by the additional safety equipment aboard the S4+, expect Mahindra to price the new variant at a premium of roughly Rs. 40,000 over the outgoing S4 4WD variant.

The Mahindra Scorpio S4+ otherwise comes equipped with features such as hydraulic power steering, power windows, manual air conditioning, tilt adjustable steering, manually adjustable internally rear view mirrors, front and rear 12V power outlets, central locking and drive away door locks.

On the outside, the Mahindra Scorpio S4+ comes with black bumpers, plastic cladding, door handles and outside rear view mirrors. The Scorpio S4+ comes with steel wheel rims.

Under the hood, the Mahindra Scorpio S4+ is powered by a 2.2 litre, turbocharged, four cylinder diesel engine developing maximum power and torque outputs of 122PS @ 4,000 rpm and 280Nm between 1,800 – 2,800 rpm, respectively. The engine is mated to a five- speed manual gearbox. Four-wheel drive can be engaged manually via the switchgear provided.

The introduction of the Scorpio S4+ is a welcome move, considering that all safety features aboard the top-end variant are now also available in the more affordable entry-level four-wheel drive variant.
