A technical committee of the Gujarat Police has submitted a proposal to the director-general of police (DGP) seeking the purchase of 20 international super bikes, including seven Harley-Davidsons, ahead of the high-profile Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ summit.
Apart from the
world-renowned Harley-Davidsons, the police department had planned to
procure over 100 bikes, with a 200 cc capacity each, to chase down
criminals
The Vibrant Gujarat Summit will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee.
The motorbikes, which have a capacity ranging from 750 to 1,000 cc, will be used to pilot VIPs during the two summits.
According to senior police officers, special trainers will be brought in to coach the policemen who will be riding the bikes.
Apart from the world-renowned Harley-Davidsons, the police department had planned to procure over 100 bikes, with a 200 cc capacity each, with the aim of forming a Hawk Squad to chase down criminals.
However, this plan had not been implemented.
Official sources told that while only seven Harley-Davidsons had been procured now, more would be bought after the two summits.
