Perception of an Idea

Shyam Mukunda Bhattaru, Pune.

Perception of an idea is very convoluted by definition. An idea may or not change its dynamics with respect to external parameters, but perception is something which is always transient- whether it is in terms of the perceiving subject or some gauge of the metrics of the notion followed. When we talk about perception in terms of a viewer, we must keep in mind the intrinsic qualities of the viewer himself. Bias, leniency and customization may have the vagaries of perception. Also one must keep in mind the mental makeup or the constituents of the viewer and how his mind works.

Now I am no philosopher, but it takes no research to find out that even the simplest aspects of our daily life are perceived differently with respect to the viewer. It all depends upon the viewer per se -

An idea may be interpreted as bold by some.

The same idea may be seen as progressive thinking by others.

Others might find it outrageous.

While some may find it an eventuality due to the lone constant – change.

Perception of an Idea
It must be kept in mind that the idea remains the same. There is not even an iota of change in the metrics of the concept. What matters is the viewer’s frames of references. Someone’s junk may be someone else’s gold. While this is rarely true, the metaphor still holds good in this case. The background and breeding/raising of the viewer also matters. Not all of us want the same things in life. We all don’t want to ride a Mercedes or Audis. We all don’t want that high paying job working our hump off. We all don’t go for thrills and adventure seeking lives. Each of us has varying degrees of tolerances and penchants for a particular subject. Some of us do have or don’t have foresight. Some of us miss the big picture. Some are smart. Some are indolent. Some of us are impeded by handicaps or by the bondages of society and the mountains of responsibilities.

But.

You know what? It’s all ok.

It’s okay to interpret differently. It’s what makes us human. It’s ingrained in our DNA .It’s okay to question the long followed beliefs. It’s okay to call it a rain check. It’s okay to break the rules as long it does not affect the subject of some other perceiver. Live and let live –even in our world of intense competition that should be the fundamental value cultivated in our posterity. It must not be bound by the restrictions of race, creed, beliefs, cultures and religion. I may be condescending in stating this, but we all know that this world isn't ideal. Not all follow the customary obligations. They are debtors to karma and karma only. But we must understand that between these pools of delinquents lie the really good and the sincere hearts. The ones who make the world worth living. That may be your better half. They may be your occupation. They may be your children. That may be even the very header of this script itself. And while we are it –we are what we think. For even Gods have said:

“When in a dilemma, choose any one, because whatever you choose, you will always think the other one was better. “
