Narmada Valley Development Authority will intensify research underway in the areas around dams and canals in Narmada valley on malaria, dengue and water-borne diseases. This was decided at a meeting between senior officers of National Malaria Research Centre New Delhi Dr. Aruna Shrivastava and Dr. B.N. Nagpal and Authority’s Member (Forests & Environment) Shri S.B. Singh.
Shri Nagpal informed that research teams of National Malaria Research Centre at Narmada Nagar, Bhopal and Jabalpur are doing survey of villages constantly and also creating public awareness about malaria and other diseases. Shri S.B. Singh said that it is necessary to further intensify survey and research work in view of expansion of project’s command area. Engineering units of projects must act promptly on the marked areas where unnecessary water is not stored and send report to research units.
Dr. B.N. Nagpal said that is necessary to constitute more units view of expansion of project’s command area. Chief Conservator of Forests (Environment Cell) Shri Rajput stressed the need to pay attention separately to health activities in Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar project areas. Health Department’s Senior Malaria Officer Dr. K.C. Paliwal and other officers were also present on the occasion.
