3 new units in Sultania Hospital

To incur Rs. 67 lakh annual burden
Three new units will be constructed in Sultania Hospital of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. The cabinet has sanctioned 14 posts for the units. These include one professor of maternity and gynaecology, 3 associate professor and 5 posts each of assistant professor and senior resident.

The 3 additional units will incur annual burden of Rs. 67 lakh 28 thousand 212. Creation of one professor’s post will incur annual burden of Rs. 8 lakh 55 thousand 12, three posts of associate professor Rs. 16 lakh 99 thousand 200, five posts of assistant professor Rs. 26 lakh 14 thousand and 5 posts of senior resident will incur annual burden of Rs. 15 lakh 60 thousand.

At present, there is only one 235-bed gynaecology department of Sultania Hospital under the college. There, services of gynaecologists and paediatricians as well as surgery are available there round-the-clock. Patients from far-off places also get admitted there and maternity-related work is done even on holidays. At present, 2posts professor, 3 associate professor, 7 assistant professor, 3 senior resident, 7 MD students per annum and 7 DGO Diploma students per annum are sanctioned for the hospital.

MIC norms and present facilities

According to MIC norms, there should be one unit in ratio of 30 beds. Thus, there should be 7 to 8 units in the hospital. At present, there are 3 units on every 80 beds instead of 30 beds due to which there is heavy workload on each unit against MIC norms.

Benefits from setting up of units

Setting up 3 additional units in the hospital will help reduce maternal and infant deaths due to complexities in delivery and gynec diseases. Number of institutional delivery will also increase. Besides, 12 PG seats will also increase annually due to which more lady doctors will be available every year.

48,920 surgeries and 48,988 deliveries

During last 5 years, Sultania Hospital has registered 48 thousand 988 deliveries and 48 thousand 920 surgeries. Of these, 11 thousand 33 deliveries and 11 thousand 120 surgeries were registered in year 2012, 10 thousand 97 deliveries and 9,921 surgeries in 2011, 10 thousand 187 deliveries and 10 thousand 190 surgeries in 2010, 9,155 deliveries and 8,885 surgeries in 2009 and 8,516 deliveries and 8,795 surgeries were registered in year 2008.
