Over 2 lakh 52 thousand power theft cases registered

Rs. 32 crore recovered, More than 10 thousand cases put up in special courts

Electricity connections of 2 lakh 52 thousand 458 high and low-tension consumers have been checked in the state in various areas under the jurisdiction of Madhya Pradesh Central, Eastern and Western Region Power Distribution Companies in the first quarter of current financial year. Out of these, irregularities were detected in 52 thousand 39 connections. An amount of Rs. 32 crore 29 lakh 98 thousand has been recovered in these cases. During the period, 10 thousand 262 cases of power theft or irregularities were filed in special courts.

Till June in year 2013-14, Madhya Pradesh Eastern Region Power Distribution Company checked 52 thousand 256 connections in Jabalpur, Rewa and Sagar areas and detected irregularities or power thefts in 13 thousand 921 connections. Rs. 7 crore 71 lakh 29 thousand were recovered from the erring consumers. The company filed 1,654 cases of power theft or irregularities in special courts.

Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company checked one lakh 62 thousand 674 connections in Indore and Ujjain areas detecting irregularities or power thefts in 28 thousand 135 connections. Rs. 22 crore 76 lakh 11 thousand were recovered from the erring consumers. The company filed 4,972 cases of power theft or irregularities in courts.

Madhya Pradesh Central Region Power Distribution Company checked 37 thousand 528 connections in Bhopal and Gwalior areas and detected irregularities or power thefts in 9,983 connections. Rs. 8 crore 82 lakh 58 thousand were recovered from the guilty consumers. The company filed 3,636 thousand cases of power theft or irregularities in special courts.
