MP Dedicated efforts being made for women’s empowermentChief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the state government is making constant and dedicated efforts for women’s empowerment. Women will not be empowered in real sense until they wield reins of power. Chouhan was addressing a function at Bhitarwar in Gwalior district today after blessing newly wed couples under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan and Nikah Yojana.

At the function, 418 couples got married. Among them, Nikahs of 16 couples were also solemnised. The newly wed included 6 disabled couples.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to ensuring happiness, progress and prosperity of women.

Referring to efforts being made in this direction by the state government, Chouhan made special mention of Ladli Laxmi Yojna, Ladli Laxmi Abhiyan etc. He said that a number of educational schemes have been implemented for girls. These include free education, uniforms, cycles and books as well as scholarships. Women have been given 50 percent reservation in local bodies. Special arrangements have also been made for them in police force and government service. The Chief Minister announced a number of works for local development and sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for development of Bhitarwar town.

Health and Family Planning Minister Narottam Mishra, Medical Education Minister Shri Anoop Mishra, Minister of State for Home, Narayan Singh Kushwaha and MP Yashodhara Raje Scindia also spoke on the occasion.
