NARSINGHPUR.
The undeclared power cuts have become a big hurdle for the Gur producing farmers in the district.
Most
of the farmers want to produce Gur to avoid facing problems of selling
sugarcane to the sugar mills. However, their problems are compounded
because of power crisis.
The
farmers incur financial losses by using diesel engine for crushing
sugarcanes and consequentially in producing Gur. Besides, their
sugarcane crops are drying up at their field because of the ending
winter season. The farmers have to face financial loss in both ways so
they want that proper power supply should be provided to them.
A
farmer Hulkar Thakur, resident of Dhuvghat village, said the sugar
mills owners are exploiting the farmers. They are not providing vehicles
and team to the farmers for cutting sugarcanes in time. Supply receipts
are also not being provided to them, he said.
The
farmers avoiding such problems had decided to produce Gur but they are
facing difficulties because of the power crisis. Thakur said if the
farmers do not get power supply, they would be forced to sell their
produce for nominal rates or to burn the sugarcane crops in the fields.
