The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) suffered yet another blow when the recent report of Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG) showed that the BDA allotted about 60% sites to ineligible applicants.
‘G’ category sites are allotted to persons in public life as may be directed by government.
The report shows that BDA had the records of only 28 sites out of 263 ‘G’ sites given under ‘Others’ category.
The records of the 28 sites show that these sites were allotted to people who were neither renowned nor had done anything for the benefit of the society.
The sites were given to 12 government officials, two house wives, four agriculturists, three businessmen, two private employees, one seer, one social worker, one doctor, one waiter and one professor.
Moreover the development authority defied the rules of allotment by awarding sites to people who already had been allotted or owned a site or house.
Scrutiny of the sampled allotments under ‘G’ category during the period 2007-2011 showed that 10 applicants had declared that they or their dependents had their own houses and/or sites. Nevertheless, sites under ‘G’ category were allotted to them.
The CAG report observed that these allotments were, prima facie, irregular. If these sites were disposed of through public auction, BDA would have earned additional revenue of Rs 9.84 crore.
